The Mission of OYS is to provide programs and services for Hawaii’s youth, including the provision of balanced and comprehensive services for at-risk youth to prevent delinquency, reduce recidivism, and maximize opportunities for youth to become productive, responsible citizens through community based and family-focused interventions.
The OYS oversees the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility, a 30-bed facility with the purpose to provide care and custody for youth committed to the State by the Family Court. Additionally, OYS staffs the Hawaii Juvenile Justice State Advisory Council, tasked to advise legislature and local communities on juvenile justice issues.
