Home Free Progam, National Runaway Switchboard
Operates a hotline for runaway-homeless youth and their families providing crisis intervention, information and referral, message delivery and conferencing services. Administers Greyhound's Home Free transportation program for runaway youth between the ages of 12 and 20 to return to their families. Conference calls before reunification. As do follow-up calls to ensure the youth's arrival home. Community-based referrals to support the reunification are encouraged. Accepts volunteers who are at least 16 years of age. 24 hotline volunteers must reside near the Chicago area. Other duties may include data entry, web research and other administrative tasks, or serve on NRS Board of Directors' committees. Volunteers residing outside the Chicago area are welcome to distribute our promotional materials nationwide as a part of our outreach efforts.
