The office helps to meet the emergency material and financial needs of the people of Oahu. Services include: (1) distribution of food and clothes, with emergency food bags and clothes vouchers (for use at any Salvation Army Thrift Store); (2) Financial assistance for emergency health and housing needs only. Applicants must be able to show that an emergency exists, that they have done all they can to resolve the problem on their own, and that they will be able to be financially self-sufficient in the future; (3) Hana Pono`i seminar, covering budgeting strategies, menu planning, and goal setting (3h sessions, twice a week)

Program does not provide transportation.
Genuine financial need. For rental assistance, must have an eviction notice or be homeless. Rental assistance limited to no more than once a year. Must meet any external (State, FEMA) grant requirements. For clothes voucher, need to be referred by doctor or a social worker (not a DHS worker).
